Sixers focused on eliminating 'really egregious' turnovers; Caleb Martin makes return to Miami
Philadelphia 76ers
The Philadelphia 76ers are focused on eliminating "really egregious" turnovers as they prepare for the playoffs.
The Sixers have been one of the most turnover-prone teams in the NBA this season, averaging 15.6 turnovers per game. That number is tied for the fourth-highest in the league.
"We've had some really egregious turnovers," coach Doc Rivers said. "We've had some unforced turnovers. We've had some turnovers where we just try to do too much."
The Sixers have been particularly turnover-prone in their last two games, committing 20 turnovers in a loss to the Memphis Grizzlies and 18 turnovers in a win over the New Orleans Pelicans.
"We're just not taking care of the basketball," Rivers said. "We're not valuing the basketball. And it's costing us games."
The Sixers are hoping to clean up their turnovers before the playoffs start next week.
"We have to be better," Rivers said. "We have to be able to take care of the basketball. We have to be able to make good decisions. And we have to be able to execute our offense."
Caleb Martin
Caleb Martin made his return to Miami on Thursday night after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.
Martin started the game and played 26 minutes, scoring 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting. He also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
"It felt good to be back out there," Martin said. "I'm still not 100 percent, but I'm getting there."
Martin's return is a boost for the Heat, who are fighting for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
"He's a big part of our team," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He's a great defender and he can knock down shots."
The Heat are hoping that Martin can help them make a deep run in the playoffs.
"We're going to need him," Spoelstra said. "He's a winner."
