Suspect in custody, motive unknown
Two people were killed and one was critically injured in a series of knife attacks in New York City on Saturday, police said. The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Muhammad Anwar, was taken into custody shortly after the attacks. The motive for the attacks is still unknown.
The attacks began at around 11:30 a.m. in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan. Anwar allegedly stabbed a 60-year-old man to death on Sherman Avenue. He then walked to Dyckman Street and stabbed a 55-year-old woman to death. A 29-year-old man was also stabbed and is in critical condition.
Anwar was arrested by police a short time later. He has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. He is being held without bail.
