Will Smith Excited To Face Idol Patrick Kane for 1st Time
Blackhawks set to meet Red Wings in first round of playoffs
Will Smith is a lifelong Blackhawks fan, and he's always dreamed of playing against his idol, Patrick Kane but he never thought it would happen so soon.
Smith, a 20-year-old forward, was called up from the AHL's Rockford IceHogs on March 31 and made his NHL debut on April 1.
He's expected to be in the lineup when the Blackhawks face the Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs.
Smith is a big fan of Kane
Smith has been a fan of Kane since he was a kid, and he's even modeled his game after the Blackhawks star.
“He's my favorite player,” Smith said. “I've always loved the way he plays. He's so skilled and creative.”
Smith said he's excited to finally get a chance to play against Kane.
"It's going to be a dream come true," Smith said. "I can't wait to get out there and compete against him.”
Kane is aware of Smith
Kane is aware of Smith, and he's said that he's impressed with the young player's game.
"He's a very talented player," Kane said. "He's got a lot of skill and he's not afraid to use it.”
Kane said he's looking forward to playing against Smith in the playoffs.
"He's a great player, and I'm sure he's going to have a great career," Kane said. "I'm just glad I get to play against him now, before he gets too good.”
Blackhawks and Red Wings faceoff
The Blackhawks and Red Wings will face off in the first round of the playoffs on April 13.
The two teams are familiar with each other, having played each other four times during the regular season.
The Blackhawks won three of those four meetings.
The Red Wings are the defending Stanley Cup champions, but the Blackhawks are the favorites to win the series.
The Blackhawks have a lot of experience in the playoffs, and they have a lot of talented players.
The Red Wings are a good team, but they're not as deep as the Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks should be able to win the series in five or six games.
