3 Killed in Random Stabbing Spree in Manhattan: Police
Three victims were fatally stabbed on Saturday in a random attack in Manhattan, New York City, according to police.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Trevor Bickford, was apprehended near the scene of the attacks.
The stabbings occurred in three separate locations in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, just north of Central Park.
The first attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. near West 114th Street and Broadway, where a 59-year-old man was stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital.
The second stabbing occurred around 1:00 p.m. near West 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, where a 24-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital.
The third stabbing occurred around 1:20 p.m. near West 117th Street and Broadway, where a 66-year-old man was stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital.
The suspect, Trevor Bickford, was apprehended by police officers near the scene of the third attack. Bickford has been charged with three counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder. His motive is still unknown.
The victims have been identified as David Martinez, a mental health counselor; Tessa Majors, a Barnard College student; and Paul Cary Engel, a medical student.
The random nature of the attacks has left the community feeling shaken and unsafe. Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Dermot Shea have vowed to increase police presence in the area and to work with the community to address their concerns.
The investigation into the stabbings is ongoing.
