Drew Timme Leads the Zags to Victory
On Thursday night, in a battle of two highly ranked teams, the No. 3 Gonzaga Bulldogs defeated the San Diego State Aztecs, 80-67, at Spokane Arena. The win moved Gonzaga to 5-0 on the season, while San Diego State dropped to 4-1.
Junior forward Drew Timme led the way for the Bulldogs with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. The performance marked Timme's first 20-point game of the season and helped him surpass 2,000 career points.
Strong Defense from Both Sides
Both teams played tough defense throughout the game, with San Diego State holding Gonzaga to 41.6% shooting from the field. However, the Bulldogs were able to force 14 turnovers from the Aztecs and turn those into 15 points.
The Aztecs were led by Matt Bradley, who scored 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting. However, Bradley's teammates struggled to find their rhythm, with no other player scoring more than 11 points.
Timme Sets New Milestone
With his 23-point performance, Timme became the 37th player in Gonzaga history to reach 2,000 career points. He is now just 38 points away from passing Adam Morrison for 10th place on the school's all-time scoring list.
Timme's performance was a reminder of his importance to the Bulldogs. The junior forward is one of the best players in the country and will be a key factor in Gonzaga's quest for a national championship this season.
