Badgers Hit Game-Winning Three with 0.3 Seconds Left
Crusaders’ Four-Game Winning Streak Snapped in Madison
INDIANAPOLIS – The Valparaiso men’s basketball team’s four-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night as Wisconsin hit a game-winning 3-pointer with 0.3 seconds remaining to hand the Crusaders a heartbreaking 64-63 loss at the Kohl Center.
Valpo (6-4) led by as many as 12 points in the second half and held a 63-61 advantage with less than 30 seconds remaining. However, Wisconsin (8-2) forced a turnover and tied the game on a Tyler Wahl layup with 12.4 seconds left.
The Crusaders had a chance to win it in regulation, but Kobe King’s jumper rimmed out with three seconds remaining. Wisconsin quickly got the ball down the court and Johnny Davis drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key as time expired to give the Badgers the victory.
King led Valpo with 18 points, while Ben Krikke added 15 points and eight rebounds. Darius DeAveiro chipped in 12 points, and Sheldon Edwards had 10 points and six rebounds.
Wahl led Wisconsin with 17 points, while Davis added 16 points. Chucky Hepburn had 11 points and seven assists, and Steven Crowl grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Crusaders shot 46.2% from the field (24-of-52) but were just 6-of-20 (30.0%) from 3-point range. Wisconsin shot 43.8% from the field (21-of-48) and was 7-of-21 (33.3%) from beyond the arc.
Valpo outrebounded Wisconsin 34-29 but committed 14 turnovers to the Badgers’ 10.
The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday night when they host Indiana State at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
