Joel Embiid Returns to 76ers Injury Report vs Miami Heat
Sixers Star Forward To Miss Preseason Debut Due to Foot Soreness
Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid will miss the team's preseason opener against the Miami Heat on Monday due to right foot soreness, the team announced Sunday.
Embiid, 28, experienced soreness in his foot during Saturday's practice and was held out of Sunday's practice as a precaution. He is listed as day-to-day and is expected to undergo further evaluation.
The 76ers are scheduled to open the regular season on Oct. 18 against the Boston Celtics. Embiid is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season, but his status for the preseason opener is uncertain.
Embiid is coming off a season in which he averaged 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He was named an All-NBA First Team selection and finished second in the MVP voting.
The 76ers are hoping to contend for a championship this season, and Embiid's health will be key to their success. The team has added several key pieces this offseason, including De'Anthony Melton, Danuel House Jr., and P.J. Tucker.
The 76ers will face the Heat in Miami on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
