Gwen Stefani said her "dream" of a traditional family was "crushed" after her split from Gavin Rossdale in 2015. But the singer has since had to learn how to navigate life as a single mom in the spotlight and as part of a blended family.
In a new interview with People magazine, Stefani opened up about the challenges of co-parenting with Rossdale, with whom she shares three sons: Kingston, 15, Zuma, 13, and Apollo, 7.
"I didn't know how to protect my kids from everything - it was really hard," she said. "I was like, 'How do I do this on my own?' I didn't have anybody to talk to."
Stefani said she has since found support from her boyfriend, Blake Shelton, and from her fellow members of the The Voice.
"I feel like I'm in a really good place right now," she said. "I'm really grateful for my kids, for Blake, for my family, for my friends."
Stefani's full interview with People will be available on newsstands on Friday.
