Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries building system enhancements
Deer hunting opened Saturday, September 24, on Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area in St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes. Hunters can pursue deer, hogs, rabbits, squirrels and other game on the 16,500-acre management area.
This year, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has made several system enhancements to improve the hunting experience on Maurepas Swamp WMA. These enhancements include:
- A new online reservation system for hunting permits.
- A new mobile app for hunters to use while on the management area.
- New signage and kiosks to help hunters navigate the management area.
- Additional law enforcement presence to ensure compliance with hunting regulations.
"We are excited about the system enhancements that we have made to Maurepas Swamp WMA," said LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet. "These enhancements will improve the hunting experience for our hunters and help us to better manage the area's resources."
Hunters planning to hunt on Maurepas Swamp WMA must have a valid hunting license and a Maurepas Swamp WMA hunting permit. Permits can be purchased online here or at any LDWF field office.
