West Ham star Michail Antonio ruled out of Jamaica's clash with the USA after losing his passport
Disastrous mix-up for Antonio as he's ruled out of Reggae Boyz's friendly with USA
West Ham striker Michail Antonio has been ruled out of Jamaica's friendly against the USA after losing his passport.
Boss Theodore Whitmore has revealed the striker will stay in England to resolve the issue.
It is a major blow for the Reggae Boyz, who are preparing for their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign.
Antonio has been in good form for West Ham this season, scoring three goals in his last four Premier League games.
He was expected to lead the line for Jamaica against the USA in Nashville on June 25.
But Whitmore has confirmed that Antonio will not be part of the squad for the match.
"Michail has lost his passport and will not be able to travel to the USA," Whitmore said.
"It is a big blow for us, but we have to move on and focus on the players who are available.
"We have a strong squad and we are confident that we can get a good result against the USA."
Jamaica will also face Suriname and Guadeloupe in the Gold Cup group stage.
They will be hoping to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2019.
Antonio's absence will be a major setback for Jamaica, but Whitmore will be hoping that his other players can step up and fill the void.
The Reggae Boyz have a number of talented attacking players, including Leon Bailey, Ravel Morrison and Bobby Decordova-Reid.
They will need to be at their best if they are to beat the USA, who are one of the favorites to win the Gold Cup.
