Tonje Scores 41 as Wisconsin Topples No. 9 Arizona
Badgers Upset Wildcats in Madison
Senior guard Julie Pospisilova scored 17 points and made a key steal in the final seconds to help Wisconsin upset ninth-ranked Arizona 84-82 on Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin held a 52-51 lead with 6:45 to play in the game, but Arizona regained the lead at 53-52 on a layup by senior guard Cate Reese. The Badgers tied it back up at 55-55 on a three-pointer by junior guard Brooke Schramek, and then took the lead for good at 57-55 on a layup by Iverson.
Arizona cut the lead to 60-59 with 3:38 to play, but Schramek extended it to 62-59 with a driving layup. The Wildcats came within one point of tying it again at 64-63 with 2:19 to play, but Pospisilova converted a layup after a steal to make it 66-63.
Arizona then started fouling to send Wisconsin to the free throw line, and the Badgers converted 6-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final 1:38 to seal the win.
Tonje Leads the Way
Iverson was the star of the game for Wisconsin, scoring a career-high 41 points on 14-of-19 shooting from the field. She also grabbed 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Pospisilova also had a big game for the Badgers, scoring 17 points and dishing out six assists. Schramek added 13 points off the bench.
Reese led the way for Arizona with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Shaina Pellington added 19 points, and Lauren Ware had 17 points.
The win was a big one for Wisconsin, who improved to 4-2 on the season. It was also a big win for first-year coach Marisa Moseley, who earned her first win over a ranked opponent.
Arizona, meanwhile, dropped to 4-3 on the season. The Wildcats will look to rebound when they host UNLV on Tuesday night.
