Texans' Collins Set for MNF Return: 'I'm Playing'
Texans to Welcome Back Collins for Monday Night Football
Houston Texans running back Dameon Pierce is set to make his return from injury on Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Texans missed Pierce in their week 11 loss to the Washington Commanders, but his absence was felt in week 12 loss to the Miami Dolphins in a big way.The rookie Pierce did not practice on Wednesday, but he was a full participant on Thursday and Friday, paving the way for his return. “The plan is for him to play,” Texans coach Lovie Smith said Friday. “He looked good in practice,” Smith added about Pierce. “I’m not concerned about him being rusty. His legs will be fresh.”
Pierce Has Been a Key Part of Texans' Offense
Pierce was a workhorse for the Texans before he picked up an ankle injury against the Tennessee Titans in Week 8. The undrafted rookie has rushed for 785 yards and four touchdowns in nine games and has helped revive a Texans offense that has struggled in recent years. He is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and has forced 33 missed tackles, which ranks third in the NFL. The team will need his presence and production to try to snap a three-game losing streak.
Texans Will Face Tough Eagles Defense
The Texans will have their hands full when they face the Eagles’ defense on Monday night. The Eagles have allowed the fewest points per game in the NFL this season (16.7) and have forced 15 turnovers (tied for second in the league). They also have 36 sacks, which ranks fourth in the NFL. With Pierce expected to make his return, the Texans have a chance to upset the Eagles on Monday night. But they will need to play their best game of the season to do so.
