Stojković: "Dramatic Match" after Draw with Switzerland
Serbian National Team Coach Reflects on Intense Match
Serbia Held to Draw in World Cup Qualifier
Serbian National Team coach Dragan Stojković expressed mixed emotions after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Switzerland in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions for both teams, with Serbia taking an early lead through Aleksandar Mitrović in the 26th minute. However, Switzerland responded quickly with two goals from Breel Embolo and Xherdan Shaqiri to seize control of the match.
Undeterred, Serbia fought back in the second half with a goal from Filip Kostić in the 66th minute. The remainder of the match was a tense battle for possession and chances, but neither team could find a winning goal.
Stojković's Post-Match Analysis
In his post-match press conference, Stojković praised his team's fighting spirit and determination despite the draw.
"It was a dramatic match," Stojković said. "We had a good start and took an early lead, but we lost our way a bit in the second half."
He added: "I am proud of my players for never giving up. We fought until the end and deserved a point considering the circumstances."
Significance of the Result
The draw leaves Switzerland top of Group C with 14 points, while Serbia remains in second place with 11 points. The result means that Serbia now needs to win its remaining two matches against Cameroon and Azerbaijan to secure automatic qualification for the World Cup.
Looking Ahead to the Future
Stojković said he is confident that his team can qualify for the World Cup:
"We have two more games left and we need to win both of them," Stojković said. "I believe in this team and I know that we can do it."
