Steve Clarke issues blunt Ben Doak reminder amid Liverpool youngster's Scotland impact
Clarke says Doak must continue to impress at club level to earn more Scotland caps
Steve Clarke has warned Ben Doak that he must continue to impress at club level if he wants to earn more Scotland caps. Doak, 17, made his Scotland debut last week in a friendly against Turkey and impressed with his performance. "He's a good player and he's got a lot of potential. The next step for him is try to get into the Liverpool team and play regular football, then we'll assess it from there."
Clarke's comments are a reminder that Doak is still a young player with a lot to prove. He has only made one appearance for Liverpool's first team and needs to start playing more regularly if he wants to become a regular for Scotland. "It was a great experience for me to make my debut for Scotland. It's something that I've always dreamed of and I'm just grateful for the opportunity. "I know that I need to continue to work hard and impress at club level if I want to earn more caps. I'm determined to do that and I'm confident that I can improve as a player."
Doak is a highly-rated prospect and is seen as one of the brightest young talents in Scottish football. He joined Liverpool from Celtic in the summer of 2022 and has quickly impressed for the club's youth teams. "He's a very exciting player and we're really pleased with the progress he's made since joining the club. "He's still only 17 years old, so he's got a lot of time to continue to develop and improve. We're confident that he has the potential to become a top player." Doak is eligible to play for Scotland or England at international level. He has represented Scotland at youth level, but he has not yet made a full international appearance for either country.
