Shorthanded San Diego State Falls to No. 3 Gonzaga at Viejas Arena
Aztecs lose 99-81 after being out-rebounded 40-24
SDSU drops to 11-7 overall with the loss
The San Diego State men's basketball team fell to No. 3 Gonzaga on Tuesday night at Viejas Arena, 99-81. The Aztecs were shorthanded for the game, as leading scorer Matt Bradley and starting center Nathan Mensah were both out with injuries.
Despite the absences of Bradley and Mensah, SDSU played well early on and led by five points with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. However, Gonzaga went on a run to take the lead and never looked back.
The Bulldogs outrebounded the Aztecs 40-24, which led to several second-chance opportunities. Gonzaga also shot 52.4% from the field, while SDSU shot just 41.3%.
SDSU was led by Darrion Trammell, who had 22 points and 6 assists. Lamont Butler added 17 points and 6 rebounds, while Trey Pulliam had 14 points.
Gonzaga was led by Drew Timme, who had 25 points and 8 rebounds. Julian Strawther added 17 points, while Nolan Hickman had 15 points.
The loss drops SDSU to 11-7 overall and 3-2 in Mountain West play. The Aztecs will host UNLV on Saturday night at Viejas Arena.
