Poland 1-2 Scotland: John McGinn says win 'bit bittersweet'
Scotland fought back to secure a dramatic Nations League victory over Poland despite having to play the final 15 minutes with nine men.
Trailing to an early Piotr Zielinski strike, Scotland levelled through Liam Cooper's header before Krzysztof Piatek restored Poland's lead.
Scotland were dealt two red cards in quick succession, with Kieran Tierney and substitute Nathan Patterson both sent off, before John McGinn's stunning 76th-minute strike secured victory.
"It's a bit bittersweet," McGinn told Sky Sports. "Obviously delighted to win the game, great character, great resilience after going down to nine men.
"We showed great spirit and togetherness to come back and win the game. It's brilliant.
"It's a different kind of win. Usually when you come away from home in difficult environments you take a point and you're happy. But for us to go and play the way we did and show the character that we did, it's something else.
"We knew it was going to be tough coming here against a good Poland team who had a lot of quality in their side. But we matched them in all areas and deserved the win."
The victory was Scotland's first away to Poland since 1977 and ends a run of four straight defeats. It also leaves Scotland top of their Nations League group with two games remaining.
"It's a massive result for us," McGinn added. "We've had a tough time recently, losing the last four games.
"We wanted to put that right and we knew if we performed to the levels we can, we could come here and get a positive result.
"We've managed to do that and it's a great feeling."
Scotland manager Steve Clarke was full of praise for his players after the game.
"I'm delighted with the players," Clarke said. "We showed great character and resilience to come back from a goal down and win the game with nine men.
"We had to dig deep and we did that. It was a great performance."
Clarke added: "I'm not going to get carried away. It's a good win but we need to keep our feet on the ground.
"We've got two more games to go in the Nations League and we need to finish the job."
