Tornado warning issued for parts of Brazoria, Galveston, and Matagorda counties
Residents urged to take shelter immediately
A tornado warning has been issued for parts of Brazoria, Galveston, and Matagorda counties in Southeast Texas, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning was issued at 6:35 p.m. CST and is in effect until 7:15 p.m. CST.
The storm is moving northeast at 55 mph and is capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail.
Residents in the affected areas are urged to take shelter immediately.
Those in mobile homes should evacuate to a sturdy building. Those in other structures should go to the lowest floor and find a room without windows, such as a closet or bathroom.
Stay away from windows and doors.
If you are caught outside, lie flat in a ditch or other low-lying area and cover your head with your hands.
