Padres Star Officially Up for Major End of Season Award
San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-seong Kim has been nominated for the 2022 Gold Glove Award at shortstop
Kim is one of three finalists for the award, along with Dansby Swanson of the Atlanta Braves and Brandon Crawford of the San Francisco Giants.
The Gold Glove Award is given to the best defensive player at each position in both the American League and National League. Kim is the first Padres player to be nominated for a Gold Glove Award since shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. in 2020.
Kim has had a breakout season in 2022, both offensively and defensively. He is currently batting .251 with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs. He also leads all shortstops in the National League with 17 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS).
DRS is a stat that measures a player's defensive contributions above or below average. Kim's 17 DRS is the highest total for any shortstop in the NL since Andrelton Simmons had 18 DRS in 2017.
Kim's strong defensive play has been a key factor in the Padres' success in 2022. The Padres are currently in first place in the NL West with a record of 89-67.
