Courtney Bell was Just 35 Years Old
Courtney Bell, a rising star who had a recurring role on the WB teen drama "One Tree Hill," died over the weekend. She was 35. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.
Bell's agent, Matt DelPiano, said in a statement that Bell was "a bright light in this world." He added, "She had a passion for acting and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed."
A Promising Career Cut Short
Bell's career began in the early 2000s with small roles in television shows such as "Malcolm in the Middle" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." In 2005, she landed her breakout role as Ellie Harp, a student at Tree Hill High School, on "One Tree Hill."
Bell appeared in 11 episodes of the show over the course of its nine seasons. She also had recurring roles on the series "Life Unexpected" and "Melissa & Joey."
A Battle With Addiction
Bell's death comes after a long battle with addiction. In 2013, she was arrested for possession of heroin. She entered rehab shortly after her arrest and had been sober for several years.
In an interview with People magazine in 2015, Bell said that she was "grateful" for the opportunity to get sober. She added, "I'm so lucky to be alive."
