NFL Trade Rumors: Orlando Brown Jr. to the Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals Acquire Brown in Blockbuster Deal
The Cincinnati Bengals have acquired Pro Bowl left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. from the Kansas City Chiefs in a blockbuster trade, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Bengals sent a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick to the Chiefs in exchange for Brown.Brown, 26, is one of the best young left tackles in the NFL. He has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past two seasons, and he was a key part of the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory in 2019. Brown is expected to start at left tackle for the Bengals, replacing Riley Reiff, who was released earlier this offseason.
The addition of Brown gives the Bengals one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. He will protect quarterback Joe Burrow's blind side and open up the running game for Joe Mixon. The Bengals are now considered one of the favorites to win the AFC North in 2023.
Chargers Miss Out on Brown
The Los Angeles Chargers were also interested in acquiring Brown, but they were unable to match the Bengals' offer. The Chargers have now missed out on two of their top offensive line targets this offseason, as they also failed to sign free agent left tackle Terron Armstead. The Chargers are now expected to turn their attention to other free agents or trade targets at left tackle. They could also move Trey Pipkins III, who started at left tackle in 2022, to right tackle and sign a new left tackle.
