Nadal unsure on Davis Cup role, to retire own way
Rafael Nadal says he is unsure whether he will play for Spain in the Davis Cup again and wants to retire on his own terms.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion has not played in the Davis Cup since 2019 and said he would need to "analyze" his future with the team.
Nadal, 36, is one of the most successful players in Davis Cup history, having won the tournament five times with Spain.
However, he has been struggling with injuries in recent years and has had to manage his schedule carefully.
Nadal said he would like to retire on his own terms, rather than being forced out by injury.
"I don't know if I'll play Davis Cup again," Nadal said.
"I'm going to analyze it and see how I feel, but I would like to retire when I decide, not because of an injury."
Nadal's comments come after Spain lost to Canada in the Davis Cup semifinals last week.
Spain is scheduled to play in the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga in November.
Nadal's future with the team will be a major talking point in the lead-up to the tournament.
If Nadal does not play in the Davis Cup, it would be a major blow to the team.
However, it would also allow Nadal to focus on his own career and try to win more Grand Slams.
