Impressive Performance Seals Top Spot in Group K

Rabat, Morocco - The Morocco national football team put on a dominant display on Tuesday, thrashing Lesotho 7-0 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat to cap off a successful Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

The Atlas Lions, who had already secured their spot in the AFCON finals, were relentless in their pursuit of victory against Lesotho. They dominated possession in both halves and created numerous chances throughout the match.

Morocco opened the scoring in the 13th minute through a header from defender Achraf Dari. Ez Abde doubled the lead just six minutes later with a stunning volley from outside the box. Sofiane Boufal made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute, finishing off a brilliant team move.

In the second half, Morocco continued to press forward and added four more goals to their tally. Youssef En-Nesyri scored twice in quick succession, in the 54th and 62nd minutes, while substitute Abderrazak Hamdallah and Ilias Chair completed the rout with goals in the 80th and 88th minutes, respectively.

The 7-0 victory marked Morocco's fifth consecutive win in the AFCON qualifiers and extended their unbeaten run in the competition to 10 matches. They finished top of Group K with 18 points from six games, six points ahead of second-placed South Africa.

Morocco's performance against Lesotho was a testament to their strength and depth as a team. They were clinical in their attacking play and solid in defense, keeping a clean sheet for the third time in the qualifiers.

The Atlas Lions will now turn their attention to the AFCON finals, which will be held in Ivory Coast from June 23 to July 23, 2024. They will be hoping to improve on their performance in the previous edition of the tournament, where they were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
