More Severe Thunderstorms Forecast for KZN

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on Thursday, 16 March 2023. The warning is in effect for the entire province, including Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and Richards Bay.

The SAWS warns that the thunderstorms could bring heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. There is also a risk of flooding in low-lying areas.

The SAWS advises residents to take precautions and stay indoors during the thunderstorms. Motorists should avoid driving through flooded areas.

What to Do During a Thunderstorm

• Stay indoors and away from windows.
• Unplug all electrical appliances.
• Avoid using landlines and mobile phones.
• If you are outside, seek shelter in a sturdy building or vehicle.
• If you are in a car, pull over to the side of the road and wait out the storm.

2. Report any damage to your insurance company.
3. Be aware of the risk of flooding and landslides.
