Michigan Cleans Up First-Half Turnovers, Topples TCU
Wolverines' Defense Dominates After Slow Start
Michigan football team overcame a sloppy first half to defeat TCU 51-41 in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on Saturday night.
The Wolverines committed three turnovers in the first half, but their defense held TCU to just 10 points off those turnovers. Michigan also forced two turnovers of their own in the second half, which helped them pull away for the victory.
Junior quarterback J.J. McCarthy finished 20-of-27 passing for 343 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Running back Donovan Edwards rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. He also caught three passes for 54 yards.
The Wolverines' defense was led by junior linebacker Junior Colson, who had 10 tackles and two sacks. Senior safety Rod Moore also had an interception and a fumble recovery.
TCU quarterback Max Duggan threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns, but he was also intercepted twice.
Running back Kendre Miller rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.
The Horned Frogs' defense was led by senior linebacker Dee Winters, who had 11 tackles.
Michigan improved to 13-1 with the win, while TCU finished the season 12-2.
