Men’s Soccer To Visit Mary Washington in NCAA First-Round Game Saturday
Christopher Newport set to face UMW following an at-large bid
No. 21 Christopher Newport University men's soccer team to begin NCAA Tournament run on Saturday night on the road at Mary Washington.
The Christopher Newport University men's soccer team will hit the road for the first round of the NCAA Tournament when they travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia, to face Mary Washington on Saturday, November 12. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
CNU (13-3-3) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after finishing the regular season ranked No. 21 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. The Captains went 8-2-1 in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, finishing second in the regular-season standings.
Mary Washington (13-2-3) won the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 9-0-1 record. The Eagles are ranked No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches South Atlantic Regional Rankings.
These two teams faced off back on September 14, with CNU winning 3-1 at home. That match was the season opener for Mary Washington, while CNU was 2-0-1 at the time.
The winner of Saturday's match will advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they will face the winner of the match between No. 1 seed Charleston and No. 8 seed Francis Marion.
