Manchester United Set to Offload Zirkzee
Dutch Striker Unable to Break Into First Team
Manchester United is reportedly preparing to offload striker Joshua Zirkzee in the January transfer window. The 21-year-old Dutchman has failed to make an impact at Old Trafford since joining from Bayern Munich in 2020, and has spent the majority of his time out on loan.
Loan Spells Fail to Impress
Zirkzee spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Anderlecht, where he scored eight goals in 23 appearances. However, he struggled for consistency and was often criticized for his lack of mobility and poor finishing.
He returned to United in the summer, but has failed to impress new manager Erik ten Hag. Zirkzee has made just one appearance for the first team this season, a brief cameo in the Carabao Cup.
Falling Down the Pecking Order
With Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Anthony Martial all ahead of him in the pecking order, Zirkzee's chances of regular playing time at United appear slim. The club is therefore looking to cut their losses and offload him in January.
Possible Destinations
Several clubs are reportedly interested in signing Zirkzee, including clubs in France, Germany, and the Netherlands. United are said to be willing to listen to offers in the region of £10 million.
Conclusion
Zirkzee's time at Manchester United has been a disappointment. The Dutchman has failed to live up to expectations and has now become surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. A move away in January would be the best solution for both the player and the club.
