Lakers to Honor Former Coach and Executive
The Los Angeles Lakers are set to unveil a statue of Miami Heat President Pat Riley outside of Staples Center on Tuesday, February 14th. The statue will honor Riley's accomplishments as a coach and executive with the Lakers, where he won five NBA championships in the 1980s.
Riley was the head coach of the Lakers from 1981 to 1990, and he led the team to four NBA championships during that time. He also won a fifth championship as the team's general manager in 2000.
Riley is considered one of the greatest coaches in NBA history, and he is also a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Statue to Be Unveiled on February 14th
The statue of Riley will be unveiled at a ceremony outside of Staples Center on Tuesday, February 14th. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 AM, and it is open to the public.
Riley is expected to attend the ceremony, and he will be joined by several of his former Lakers teammates and coaches.
The statue is being created by sculptor Omri Amrany, who also created the statues of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson outside of Staples Center.
