Inês Bettencourt Scores Season-High 17, Gonzaga Halts Two-Game Skid

Bulldogs Win 66-55 Over Wyoming

SPOKANE, Wash. - Inês Bettencourt had the hot hand in Spokane on Saturday, notching a season-high 17 points to lead the Gonzaga Bulldogs to a 66-55 victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls.

Bettencourt wasn’t the only Bulldog in double figures, as Yvonne Ejim, Brynna Maxwell and Kaylynne Truong all finished with 10 points.

The win snapped a two-game skid for Gonzaga (9-3), which improved to 2-0 at home this season. Wyoming (6-6) has now lost two straight games.

Bettencourt Takes Over in Second Half

Bettencourt was relatively quiet in the first half, scoring just four points on 2-of-5 shooting.

But the junior guard came alive in the second half, scoring 13 points on a perfect 5-of-5 shooting from the field.

Bettencourt’s big second half helped Gonzaga pull away from Wyoming, which led by four points at halftime.

Defense Steps Up in Second Half

Gonzaga’s defense was much better in the second half, holding Wyoming to just 25% shooting from the field.

The Bulldogs forced 10 turnovers in the second half and held Wyoming to just two made three-pointers.

Gonzaga’s defense was led by Ejim, who had three blocks and two steals.

Quotable

"I'm really proud of the way our team responded in the second half," Gonzaga coach Lisa Fortier said. "We were much more aggressive on defense and we made some big shots on offense."

"Inês Bettencourt had a great game for us tonight," Fortier added. "She was really efficient on offense and she played great defense."
