Bulldogs Put Together Strong Defensive Performance to Secure Win
SPOKANE, Wash. - Inês Bettencourt scored 17 points, including a key three-pointer with 2:16 remaining, to help Gonzaga snap a two-game losing streak with a 64-52 victory over Wyoming on Thursday night at the McCarthey Athletic Center.
Gonzaga (12-5) held Wyoming (8-8) to just 32.8% shooting from the field, including 1-of-14 from three-point range. The Cowgirls entered the game averaging 7.5 made three-pointers per game.
Bettencourt Leads Bulldogs with Efficient Shooting Night
Bettencourt was 6-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range. She also added four rebounds and three assists.
Yvonne Ejim added 14 points for Gonzaga, while Kaylynne Truong chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.
Cowgirls Struggle to Find Offensive Rhythm
Wyoming was led by Grace Ellis' 13 points. The Cowgirls shot just 32.8% from the field and committed 16 turnovers.
Gonzaga forced 10 turnovers in the first half and held Wyoming to just 25.0% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs led 32-21 at the break.
Strong Defensive Effort Propels Gonzaga to Victory
In the second half, Gonzaga continued to put pressure on Wyoming's offense. The Cowgirls shot just 33.3% from the field in the second half and committed eight turnovers.
Gonzaga's defense held Wyoming to just 10 points in the fourth quarter, securing the victory for the Bulldogs.
