Idaho State men knock off University of San Diego, 78-66, for huge road win
Idaho State rallies from 10 points down
POCATELLO, Idaho — Brock Mackenzie scored 21 points off the bench to lead four players in double figures as the Idaho State men's basketball team rallied from 10 points down in the second half to beat the University of San Diego 78-66, Saturday, snapping a two-game slide.
Trailing 37-32 after USD's Marcellus Earlington hit a 3-pointer with 18:31 left in the game, ISU used a 22-6 run over the next seven minutes to take a 54-43 lead with 11:20 left.
ISU never trailed again and led by as many as 15, 71-56, with 2:07 left after a layup by Tarik Cool.
Idaho State improves record to 5-6
Mackenzie was 9-of-13 from the field and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Bengals, who improved to 5-6 on the season.
The Bengals hit seven 3-pointers in the game, going 7-of-21 from beyond the arc. ISU shot 50 percent from the field, going 27-of-54, and hit 18-of-22 free throws.
Daxton Carr added 16 points, hitting 4-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Austin Smellie added 15 points and Jared Rodriguez came off the bench to score 13 for ISU.
San Diego drops to 2-9
USD, which dropped to 2-9 on the year, was led by Bryce Monroe's 17 points.
The Toreros hit just 37.5 percent from the field, going 21-of-56, and were 7-of-27 from 3-point range.
The game was tied 25-25 at halftime. USD led by as many as 10, 37-27, in the second half before ISU's rally.
The Bengals return to action Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Weber State. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m.
