How to Train Your Dragon Is 'Dialled-Up in Terms of Stakes' in Live-Action
Dean DeBlois Returns to Direct
DreamWorks Animation is bringing the popular "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise to live-action, and director Dean DeBlois is set to return to helm the project. DeBlois directed all three of the animated films and is also credited with writing the story for the first two installments.
Live-Action Adaptation
The live-action adaptation of "How to Train Your Dragon" has been in development for several years, and it is finally set to begin filming in 2022. The film will star Tom Holland as Hiccup and Fionn Whitehead as Toothless - a major change from the animated films which featured Vikings and dragons.
Higher Stakes, Richer Characters
DeBlois has said that the live-action film will be "dialled-up in terms of stakes" compared to the animated films. He also said that the film will explore the characters in more depth and that it will be "a more mature story."
The original "How to Train Your Dragon" film was released in 2010 and was a critical and commercial success. The film spawned two sequels, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" (2014) and "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World" (2019), which were also both successful.
The live-action adaptation of "How to Train Your Dragon" is set to be released in 2024.
