Rough start in SoCal for Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings were blown out by the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings by a combined score of 13-4, and were outshot 78-47, during their dreadful California road trip.

Now, they'll try to salvage the trip by rallying against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.

"It's been a tough 24 hours," coach Derek Lalonde said. "But you can't let it linger. You can't have a pity party.

"We have to come out with energy and desperation," he added, "and try to find a win here."

Looking forward

Lalonde believes there are some positive things the Red Wings can take from their first two games of the trip, even though the results were not what they wanted.

"We had a really good start in Anaheim, and we were right there in L.A. until late in the second period," he said. "We just have to find a way to sustain it for a full 60 minutes."

The Red Wings have been outscored 13-4 in their first two games of the trip, but they have also had some good moments.

They scored the first goal in both games, and they have generated some good scoring chances.

If they can continue to do that, and tighten up their defense, then they should be able to salvage the trip with a win in San Jose.

Quotes

"We have to find a way to get pucks to the net and create some chaos," Lalonde said. "We're not going to score pretty goals every night, so we have to find other ways to generate offense."

"We have to be better at winning puck battles and making plays under pressure," said center Dylan Larkin. "We're not doing that right now, and it's costing us games."

"We need to find a way to stay positive and keep working," said defenseman Moritz Seider. "We're going to get through this, and we're going to be a better team for it."
