Spain holds on to beat Denmark in Nations League thriller
Spain came from behind to beat Denmark 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, with Nico Williams scoring a late winner in Copenhagen.
Denmark took the lead through Andreas Skov Olsen in the first half, but Spain equalized through Mikel Oyarzabal just before the break.
Williams then struck the winner in the 90th minute to give Spain their first win of the Nations League campaign.
Spain now has four points from two games, while Denmark has one point from two games.
Spain took control of the game from the start and created several chances in the opening minutes.
However, it was Denmark who took the lead against the run of play when Olsen fired home from close range in the 29th minute.
Spain continued to press for an equalizer, and they finally got their reward in the 40th minute when Oyarzabal headed home from a cross by Dani Carvajal.
The second half was a more even affair, with both teams creating chances.
However, it was Spain who came closest to scoring when Oyarzabal hit the crossbar in the 65th minute.
With the game looking set to end in a draw, Williams popped up with the winner in the 90th minute.
The Athletic Bilbao forward was played through on goal by Gavi and he coolly slotted home to give Spain a vital win.
