CSU Men's Basketball Team Surges in Second Half, But Falls to Oregon State

Cougars Outplayed in First Half, But Rally in Second

Fullerton, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton men's basketball team showcased a valiant effort in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a slow start as they fell to Oregon State 70-51 in their season opener on Tuesday night at Titan Gym. The Cougars trailed by 19 points at the break, but chipped away at the deficit in the second half. Fullerton outscored Oregon State 34-28 in the final 20 minutes, but the Beavers made 10 of their 13 free throw attempts in the second half to seal the victory.

Balanced Scoring Effort From Cougars

Despite the loss, the Cougars received contributions from several players. Junior guard Tory San Antonio led the way with 12 points, while fellow junior guard Tray Maddox Jr. added 10 points. Senior forward Dante Maddox Jr. chipped in with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Oregon State Dominates Inside

The Beavers, who finished 19-13 last season, controlled the paint throughout the game. Oregon State outrebounded Fullerton 42-28 and scored 30 points in the paint.

Looking Ahead

The Cougars will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host UC Riverside at Titan Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT.

Post-Game Quotes

"We didn't play well in the first half," said Fullerton head coach Dedrique Taylor. "We were not ready to play. We came out flat and it cost us." "We played much better in the second half," Taylor added. "We made some adjustments and we started to play with more energy. We just couldn't make enough plays down the stretch." "We're going to learn from this and we're going to get better," said San Antonio. "We have a lot of potential and we're going to show it."
