Community Mourns the Loss of Valerie Goff After Flash Floods in Orangeburg County
Orangeburg County, SC (FOX 24 News) - The community is mourning the loss of Valerie Goff, 68, after flash floods ravaged Orangeburg County on Monday, August 14th. Goff was one of three people who died in the flooding, the others were 19-year-old Elijah Davis and 20-year-old Nicolas Guinyard.
Goff's body was found in her car, which was swept away by the floodwaters. She was a lifelong resident of Orangeburg County, and member of the local church for over 40 years.
Goff was a beloved member of the community, and her death has left a hole in the hearts of many. She was known for her kindness, and her willingness to help others.
Funeral services for Valerie Goff will be held on Saturday, August 19th, at 1 pm at the Orangeburg County Funeral Home, located at 2251 St. Matthews Road in Orangeburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross or the United Way.
The community is still reeling from the effects of the flash floods which dumped more than a foot of rain on parts of the county.
The floods caused widespread damage to homes and businesses, and many people were forced to evacuate their homes. The Red Cross has set up a shelter for those who have been displaced by the flooding.
The floodwaters have receded, but the recovery effort is just beginning.
