Clean Water has Returned to Asheville After Helene, City Says; Boil Water Advisory Lifted
Asheville, N.C.
September 20, 2023
Asheville’s water system is now operating normally, and the boil water advisory that was issued on Monday, September 18, 2023, has been lifted, the city announced Tuesday.
The advisory was issued after heavy rains from Hurricane Helene caused the city’s water treatment plant to lose power. The plant was able to resume normal operations on Tuesday morning, and water quality tests have confirmed that the water is safe to drink.
City officials are urging residents to flush their water lines by running all faucets in their homes and businesses for at least five minutes. This will help to clear any sediment that may have accumulated in the lines during the power outage.
The city also recommends that residents boil water for one minute before drinking it or using it for cooking if they have not already done so.
