Speaking to Sky Sports, Clarke admitted that it’s too early to say if Gordon will be fit to face Liverpool but insisted that he’s “hopeful” the Scotland international can make his return to the team.

Starting XI changes

The international break has also given Clarke the chance to look at his options ahead of the Liverpool clash and he’s hinted that he could make changes to his starting XI.

“I’ve got a few decisions to make,” he said. “We’ve had a good week’s training and I’ve been able to have a look at some of the players who haven’t been playing as much recently. There are a few players who have put their hand up for selection and I’ll have to make some big decisions ahead of the Liverpool game.”

One of the players who could come into contention for a starting spot is young striker Liam Doak.

The 16-year-old has been in impressive form for Celtic’s development team this season and Clarke has hinted that he could be ready to make his first-team debut against Liverpool.

“Liam is a very talented player,” said Clarke. “He’s still only 16 but he’s already shown that he has a lot of potential. He’s a natural goalscorer and he’s also very good with his feet. I’ve been impressed with him in training and he’s definitely in my thoughts for the Liverpool game.”
