The NBA community is in mourning following the passing of Bob Love, a Chicago Bulls All-Star, at the age of 81. Love, a key member of the Bulls' first championship team in 1971, was a four-time All-Star and one of the most beloved players in franchise history.
Remembering Love's Legacy
Born in Bastrop, Louisiana, Love was a standout player at Southern Illinois University before being drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 1965. He played for the Bucks for two seasons before being traded to the Bulls in 1968.
Love quickly became a fan favorite in Chicago, known for his high-flying dunks and tenacious defense. He averaged 18.1 points and 8.1 rebounds per game over his eight seasons with the Bulls, leading the team to five playoff appearances.
In 1971, Love was selected to his first All-Star Game and played a pivotal role in the Bulls' championship victory over the New York Knicks. He scored 20 points in Game 7 of the Finals, helping the Bulls secure their first NBA title.
Love's Post-Playing Career
After retiring from the NBA in 1977, Love remained involved in the game as a coach and executive. He served as an assistant coach for the Bulls, Lakers, and Hawks, and was the general manager of the New Jersey Nets from 1995 to 1999.
In 1993, Love was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding playing career. He was also named one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1996.

"Bob Love was a warrior on the court and a true friend off of it," said Jerry Sloan, Love's former Bulls teammate. "He was a fierce competitor who always gave 100% effort. The NBA has lost a great player and a great person."
Current Bulls star DeMar DeRozan also paid tribute to Love, saying, "Bob Love is one of the reasons why I wanted to play in Chicago. He represented the city with pride and passion. His legacy will live on in the hearts of Bulls fans forever."
