Ben Doak could be handed brutal reality check just days after tormenting Man City star
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could have other plans for the teenage wonderkid
Doak was in inspired form as the Reds' youngsters beat Manchester City 3-1 in the FA Youth Cup on Saturday
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could hand Ben Doak a brutal reality check just days after the teenage wonderkid tormented Manchester City star Joao Cancelo.
Doak was in inspired form as the Reds' youngsters beat Manchester City 3-1 in the FA Youth Cup on Saturday, with the 17-year-old causing Cancelo all sorts of problems down the left flank.
But Klopp is unlikely to throw Doak in at the deep end when Liverpool take on Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with the German coach preferring to ease the youngster into the first-team setup.
Doak has been training with the first-team regularly this season and has made two appearances for the Reds, but he is still very much a raw talent.
Klopp will be keen to protect Doak from the intense pressure of playing in front of a packed Anfield crowd, especially in such a high-stakes match.
Instead, the Liverpool boss is likely to give Doak a taste of first-team action in the Carabao Cup or FA Cup, where the stakes are not as high.
Doak has all the potential to become a star for Liverpool, but Klopp is right to be cautious with the youngster.
The Scot still has a lot to learn and needs to bulk up physically before he is ready to compete at the highest level.
But if Doak continues to develop at his current rate, he could soon be knocking on the door of the first-team on a regular basis.
