Golden Bears secure 78-62 victory in nonconference matchup
The California Golden Bears women’s basketball team extended their winning streak to four games with a convincing 78-62 victory over the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Tuesday night at Haas Pavilion.
The Bears were led by senior guard Jayda Curry, who scored a game-high 23 points. Curry was 8-of-15 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range.
Sophomore forward Aari McDonald added 15 points and 9 rebounds for Cal, while senior forward Kristine Anigwe chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bears shot 45.5% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range. They also outrebounded the Bulldogs 43-32.
Gonzaga was led by sophomore guard Jill Townsend, who scored 15 points. Junior forward Jenn Wirth added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs shot 37.5% from the field and 23.5% from three-point range. They also committed 18 turnovers.
The Bears improved to 4-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-2.
Cal will return to action on Friday, November 23, when they host the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. Gonzaga will return to action on Saturday, November 24, when they host the Montana Grizzlies.
