Three People Killed in Random Stabbings in New York City
NEW YORK (AP) — Three people were killed and two others were injured in a series of random stabbings in New York City on Saturday, police said. The suspect, a 62-year-old man, was taken into custody.
The attacks took place over the course of several hours in the Queens and Manhattan boroughs. The first attack occurred at around 11:30 a.m. in Queens, where a 67-year-old man was stabbed multiple times. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
The second attack took place at around 1:30 p.m. in Manhattan, where a 55-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times. She was also taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
The third attack took place at around 2:30 p.m. in Queens, where a 44-year-old man was stabbed multiple times. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Suspect in Custody
The suspect, identified as Roland Codrington, was taken into custody at around 3:00 p.m. in Queens. He has been charged with three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Police said that Codrington is a homeless man who has a history of mental illness. He is currently being held at Bellevue Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Investigation Ongoing
Police are still investigating the motive behind the attacks. They do not believe that the victims were targeted because of their race or religion.
